'Molly Dowling: Born in a field of everlastings' My Nana Mary Dowling (nee Latham) was one of the first faces I ever truly saw. Her expressions and voice will always be in my memory because her life meant so much to me. She taught me about life when I didn't understand completely what it really was. She said to me when she was recovering from her stroke, when she was in great pain and bewilderment, that this is not what life is about. To her life meant hope. I recall a famous quote here. I think it was Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe who said "Only love creates". Nana had a lot of love for many people. My Nana taught me about justice, humility and resilience. She was without boast. She never wanted me to be slack with anything I tried to achieve. Even if I did falter, I knew she loved me in spite of it. My Nana was an artist. She chose her family to be her works of art. When I was growing up, she never once told me that what I felt in my heart to be an artist was wrong. I miss her as my grandmother but equally so, I say goodbye to a dear soul and a true friend.
